Accelerating Multiview Registration and Iterative Deconvolution to Improve Spatial Resolution and Contrast in Fluorescence Microscopy
This technology includes algorithms and software that improve the speed of iterative deconvolution, a common method for improving spatial resolution and contrast in fluorescence microscopy images. These algorithms also improve the registration of multiview datasets, and apply deep learning to accelerate spatially varying deconvolution.

Improvement of Axial Resolution via Photoswitching and Standing Wave Illumination
This technology includes an illuminator and reflector that enables flexible standing wave illumination on an inverted microscope stand, and procedures for using such illumination to improve axial resolution in confocal or instant SIM imaging systems. The axial resolution in conventional fluorescence microscopy is typically limited by diffraction to...

Computational Alleviation of Depth-dependent Degradation in Fluorescence Images
This technology includes an approach that dramatically lessens the effects of depth-dependent degradation in fluorescence microscopy images. First, we develop realistic ‘forward models’ of the depth dependent degradation and apply these forward models to shallow imaging planes that are expected to be relatively free of such degradation....

Instant Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence/Structured Illumination Microscopy (instant TIRF/SIM)
This technology includes a method which enables high-speed, super-resolution microscopy at a very high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), for biological applications within ~200 nm (the evanescent wave decay length) of a coverslip surface. Instant TIRF/SIM may be implemented simply by modifying and adding to the excitation optics that are already present...

Repurposing CDK Inhibitors for the Treatment of Zika Virus Infection
This invention includes the discovery and use of a group of CDK inhibitors that were found during a drug repurposing screen designed to find compounds that inhibit Zika virus caused cell death. The identified CDK inhibitors have all previously been used in clinical trials for other diseases, potentially reducing the long time course needed for new drug...

Self-Expanding Stent for Valve Replacement
Aortic stenosis and aortic regurgitation are the most common types of aortic valvular diseases. Such diseased aortic valves in the body are traditionally replaced with valve prosthesis by an open surgical implantation. Available for licensing and commercial development is intellectual property covering stents for use with valve prostheses. As illustrated...

Amphiphilic macromolecules with novel hydrophobic segments
Invention Summary: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of mortality in developed countries. Atherosclerosis, defined as the buildup of lipid rich plaques within the vascular intima, is the foremost pathology underlying these conditions. This causes irregular uptake of oxidized low-density lipoproteins (OxLDL) which leads...

PMU-Embedded Analytics for Online Event Detection and Classification in Power Grids
The energy requirement of the world is increasing exponentially every year. With the power demand sites concentrated in the region with the highest population density, energy production sites must be located remotely. This isolation requires lengthy and complicated grids to be designed and manufactured to transmit power over long distances. Grid failures...

Distributed Feedback Fiber Laser Pumped by Multimode Diode Lasers
Researchers at the University of Arizona College of Optical Sciences and Canada's Carleton University recently succeeded in fabricating high reflectivity (>99%) Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs) into phosphate glass fibers using UV light and a phase mask technique. With this new manufacturing technique, fiber lasers can be created as single monolithic...

All-Fiber Multicore Fiber Laser Devices
Researchers at the University of Arizona have developed a compact, power-scalable, alignment-free fiber laser that takes a new approach to stabilizing phase-locked operation of multi-core fiber lasers by completely removing all free space optical components. This high-brightness, all-fiber laser package uses passive optical fiber spliced at both ends...
