Tau-7: Monoclonal Antibody Specific for the C-Terminus of Tau

Inventor

Lester Binder

Short Description

Tau-7 is a mouse monoclonal antibody (mAb) that binds to the carboxy terminal region of human tau.

Abstract

Researcher Lester Binder has created a series of useful antibodies that are specific for the human tau protein.  This particular antibody, Tau-7 mAb, is of the IgG1 isotype and would be useful to researchers who wish to study the role of tau in Alzheimer’s progression.  Preliminary assignment of its epitope indicates that it maps to the C-terminus on the longest isoform of human tau, a region of the protein that is significant for the inhibition of full-length polymerization of microtubules.

Tau-7 was derived from a hybridoma cell line created through the fusion of SP2/o myeloma cells with splenocytes from a mouse immunized with recombinant human tau.
