Hard X-ray imaging detector
The Technology department at STFC have developed the HEXITEC detector measures the energy and position of every incident photon in the 4-200keV range. Each one of the 80x80 pixels provides a full energy spectrum with an average energy resolution of 800eV FWHM at 60keV. IMAGES Published: 6/21/2024   |   Inventor(s): Matt Wilson, Paul Seller

Imaging Sensor (3 Side Buttable)
For some imaging applications, such as medical X-ray imaging and satellite imaging, the detecting area has to be large and can only be covered by tiling several smaller detector units preferably in a 3-side buttable fashion, which poses many readout and addressing issues. The following novel STFC technology overcomes challenges posed by such a design....

OPIC Sensor
STFC Engineers have developed a CMOS detector with the ability to detect rapid increases in incident radiation within a single exposure period. This functionality makes the detector particularly useful in the detection of sudden external event, while not limiting any normal uses. DESCRIPTIONNormal CMOS or CCD detectors do not give any information as...

Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy
Circular dichroism (CD) is the differential absorption between left and right circularly polarised light on passage through a sample. Measurement of CD gives structural and enantiomeric information on proteins, other biomolecules and liquid crystals. STFC’s new circular dichroism detection system overcomes the sensitivity and speed issues faced...

Novel Amplifier
STFC has developed a gain block with improved noise performance and lower power consumption, developed initially for use in a charge amplifier front end. The block can also be used in other types of amplifier, especially voltage amplifiers and shaping amplifiers. IMAGES Published: 6/8/2022   |   Inventor(s): Richard Stephenson
