Despite the similarities of food allergy with other atopic disorders, several characteristics of food allergy are distinct. Food allergy often presents very early in life and sometimes after only a single exposure to the allergen, making this technology attractive as a diagnostic for identifying at-risk infants at birth or soon thereafter.
