Treatment of viral induced cancers

  Docket# S4039
Technology:
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus(KSHV) are human γ-herpesviruses associated with a broad spectrum of B-cell lymphomas typically in immune-compromised populations. There are no drugs which can specifically target EBV/KSHV-associated B-cell tumors. Using a High-throughput Screen utilizing virus infected or uninfected human B-cell lines, Robertson et al. have identified a total of 9 lead candidates (small molecules) that inhibit γ-herpesvirus transformed B-cell lines, some through the activation of NF-kappa B and c-Myc pathways. In-vitro toxicology data resulted in the determination for optimal dosing is currently being tested in mice. In addition Prof. Erle Robertson has identified gamma-secretase inhibitors that prevent the production of intracellular Notch1 and thereby arresting growth of the infected cells
