High Dynamic Range Fast Cv Sensor Using Wide Bandgap Silicon Carbide

Advantages

  • The SiC sensing probes will be reliable and repeatable
  • Has a highly dynamic voltage range which makes it ideal for a biosensor
  • Better compatibility with biological environments and is corrosion resistant

Summary

Typical fast CV (cyclic voltammetry) sensors, which are of typically made using platinum, are limited to ±1V, thus making it difficult for the detection of numerous chemical species of interest. This method uses highly stable Silicon Carbide with a bandgap of 3.2 eV(4H-SiC), which allows for reliable and repeatable 'deep' sensing of numerous species of interest. Due to the excellent compatibility of SiC with biological systems the method opens the possibility of using SiC for a plethora of biomedical applications. One of the major instances would be for the use of COVID-19 disease detection which requires accurate sensing; a breathalyzer-type sensing system would have great benefit in controlling the disease via accurate, real-time detection in humans.
