SHORT DESCRIPTION
A novel protocol to produce a new kind of edible skincare formulation which is vapor-triggered sustained-released.

ABSTRACT
Northwestern researchers have developed a synthetic class of γ-cyclodextrin-containing hybrid frameworks (CD-HFs), employing γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) as the primary building blocks, along with 4-methoxysalicylate anions as the secondary building blocks. The CD-HFs are constructed through the synergistic exploitation of coordinative, electrostatic, and dispersive forces. The syntheses have been carried out using an organic counteranion co-assembly strategy, which allows for the introduction of 4-MS−, in place of inorganic OH−, into the cationic γ-CD-containing metal-organic frameworks (CD-MOFs).  This one-pot protocol for creating crystals with frameworks containing delivery system and the drug molecules, solves the problem of imprecise loading drug molecules by physical/chemical adsorption in the channels of the porous materials. Its addresses an unmet need for stabilizing the framework in water.

APPLICATION

  • Skincare Formulation

ADVANTAGES

  • Edible formulation for drug delivery
  • Precise load of the drug in the delivery at molecular level
  • Stable crystalline structure with the drug molecules as part of the frameworks in the crystal
  • Water vapor-triggered sustained release
