Researchers at USF have proposed the Superhero Training Network (STN). STN is a series of instructive and entertaining videos and print materials through which the Scientific League of Superheroes (SLOSH) team discuss scientific concepts in a unique learning experience. These lessons are extended into hands-on academic challenges where students practice problem solving skills in science to aid the superhero team. This unique, media-based educational tool has been developed to encourage students in science by using something all children love, superheroes. The STN is a flexible delivery format and is easily adapted to any curriculum, allowing for seamless integration into existing classroom lesson plans. The program contains materials designed specifically for teachers (teacher’s guides) and provides suggestions and instruction on ways the STN can be seamlessly integrated into existing classroom lesson plans. As demonstrated by a collaboration with selected Hillsborough County schools (2011-2014), this tool helps maintain student interest while making learning fun for everyone in the classroom.
