Substrate and Solvent Mediated Synthesis of Fullerene Self-Assemblies

Fullerene can be engineered into many different shapes and sizes. The self-assembled fullerene fabrication can lead to large structural variations depending on the methodology used in the procedure. Since Fullerene was discovered in 1985, the structural variations on fullerenes have expanded from just simple individual clusters. This technology determines a method to synthesize self-assemblies of fullerene whose structure is mediated by the solvent and substrate used in procedure. The solvent and substrate mediated synthesis can craft fullerene structures that are flower-like shapes, hollow hexagonal crystals, and faceted rods.

Applications:
Advances the in the fields of:

  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Cosmetics
  • Energy storage
  • Electronics

Advantages:

  • This technology is an method to fabricate self-assembly fullerene
  • The amount of fullerene dissolved in the solvent is always below the respective solubility limits
  • The technology fabrication method can produce nano-rods, complex flower-like shape, and a faceted hollow closed micrometer sized hexagonal crystal
