TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION
New compositions of matter called “bistetracenes” have been invented. Bistetracenes are large polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons prepared by a relatively simple and straightforward method. Derivatives are solution-processable, air stable, have low energy band gaps and high carrier mobilities, thereby overcoming the disadvantages of organic semiconductor materials currently used. Thus, bistetracene will enable the design of unconventional semiconductor compounds for use in high performance devices like organic solar cells and thin film transistors.

Dr. Alejandro Briseno is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering. He is a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.
