Executive Summary
Gaseous ionization detectors are capable of measuring the energy and location of ionizing radiation. MSU researchers have developed an improved method of integrating multiple detection methods into a single parallel plate detector. By a novel means of arranging these various sensing methods, the x, y, and z coordinates of the ionizing radiation as well as the deposited energy and time are determined.
Description of Technology
This technology is the integration of a scintillator and a gaseous ionization in a dual mode parallel plate detector. The perimeter of the detector is lined with scintillation light photo-sensors modified with segmented light sampling. The segmentation of the photo-sensor light sampling allows improved resolution of the x, y coordinates of the impeding radiation. This detector is applicable to a diverse range of applications, including use in particle accelerator based research and industrial and medical radiation technologies.
