Researchers at the University of Arizona have developed an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) optical communication system for access networks that can work in a direct receiver mode and in a coherent receiver mode. Compared to currently available OFDM products, the novel system has fewer components and is simpler to set up.
