The University of South Carolina is offering licensing opportunities for Pediatric Cardiac Defect Heart Model.
Background:
To address the current nursing shortage, it is critical to get qualified and well-trained nurses into the profession as quickly as possible without sacrificing quality training. Manipulative anatomy tools are a great way to provide hands-on learning for nurses in training.
Invention Description:
This invention is a cardiac heart model with interchangeable parts that can be put together to simulate four different cardiac defects (VSD, ASD, PDA, and Tetralogy of Fallot) and fetal cardiac circulation. When printed, this hands-on tactile model will increase nursing students' engagement and understanding of congenital heart defects.
Potential Applications:
The cardiac heart model will aid nursing students and nursing faculty in engaging their students in learning pediatric heart defects using a hands-on tactile model that simulates common cardiac defects and fetal and normal circulation. The model will facilitate student nurses in learning the pathophysiology and symptoms of cardiac defects to better care for pediatric patients with cardiac defects.
Advantages and Benefits:
There is no product on the market that teaches nursing students using a hands-on heart model manipulative that can make four different cardiac defects as well as normal circulation and fetal heart circulation that can also be 3D printed for customization. Printing one model costs approximately $4 to print
