Novolntus Vaginal Speculum

Project ID: TECH-2024-17

Background

Vaginal speculums are medical devices commonly used during gynecological examinations to visualize and access the cervix and vaginal canal.  Traditionally, speculums have been constructed from metal, featuring two hinged blades that can be opened and closed by a handle mechanism.  However, the cold metal and cranking noise of existing vaginal speculums can cause patients discomfort and anxiety.

Invention Description

Researchers at the University of Toledo have developed a novel single use vaginal speculum made of silicone-coated plastic with silent screw adjustment to maximize patient comfort.
