Novel Color Pigments Based On AM12O19 Oxides

Technology Description

Colors available for these new pigments are different shades of blue, pink, rosy, golden brown, turquoise and more. Specifically, this technology describes a nontoxic, inexpensive and stable blue pigment superior to commercially available ones based on CoAl2O4.

Features & Benefits

  • New blue colors are durable, nontoxic, and inexpensive
  • Demonstrate better Near Infrared Reflectance (NIR) than Co blue pigment CoAl2O4
  • Can be easily prepared through traditional ceramic powder processing techniques in air

Background of Invention

Many existing pigments are unstable, toxic and expensive to make. The pigments we have discovered contain mainly Ca, Al, Ni, Mn, Fe, Zn, Mg, Sn, Ti, V, La etc. but no toxic elements. They are thermally stable and are resistant to attack by acid and alkaline environments.

Novel Color Pigments Based On AM12O19 (A=Ca, Sr, Ba, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu, In; and M=Al, Ni, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn Ga, Ge, Si, In, Sn, Mg, Zr, Nb, Ta, Sb, Te) Oxides
