Methods For Building A Self-Contained Responsive Biological System

This technology is a new organ modeling system that utilizes plant leaves to study cancer mechanism and drug interactions. It focuses on the optimized scaffolding of decellularized plant tissues seeded with mammalian cells. The model is ideal for producing a 3D vascularized biological system that can be dynamically controlled through changes in perfusion rate, time-varying changes, and flow-rate.

Background:

The development of new and effective therapeutics is costly and is often delayed by a lack of adequate models for testing. This technology provides a dynamic 3D biological system that more accurately mimics the human vasculature and therefore biological systems. This self-contained and responsive biological system allows for monitoring of multiple responses of the biological system when induced by a stimuli.

Applications:

  • Biomedical research
  • Pharmaceutical testing
  • Pharmaceutical research

Advantages:

  • Overcomes current issues found in animal models
  • More representative of the human system
