Method and System for Eye Tracking using Deflectometric Information

This innovation is a new method and system that uses deflectometric information for precise and fast eye tracking, which is a common requirement in current technologies for virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality headsets. Three sub-techniques are used to evaluate the gazing direction including: classical deflectometry, inverse rendering from a virtual eye model, and a deep learning-based method. Other information such as the variances in eye shape and the use of corrective lenses may also be used. The developed method is easy to implement in current VR/AR/MR headsets, and research results show this novel method outperforms current state-of-the-art eye tracking technologies.
