This technology is a method designed to enable complex and/or high-discretization light field modulation in devices using a novel pixel interference technique. This method offers a way of improving the performance of a wide range of optical technologies, enabling phase-only modulators to project complex fields, and all modulators to modulate fields with higher levels of quantization. Background: There are a wide range of optical modulators such as Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs), Digital Micromirror Devices (DMDs), Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) modulators, Phase Light Modulators (PLMs) currently available, but they are generally able to only modulate either phase or amplitude separately and are limited in the levels of quantization which they can modulate. This technology aims to enhance the capabilities and performance of existing optical modulation technologies though a novel method of pixel interference on a variety of devices. Applications:
