Intubating NIPPV Mask

This product idea is a nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation mask designed for use during fiberoptic endotracheal intubation of patients with respiratory failure or those who are morbidly obese. The device could also be used to facilitate endoscopic procedures other than intubation in these high-risk patients.  Approximately 10-20% of ICU intubations could benefit from a mask of this design. An additional 2 - 5 % of all operating room and emergency room intubations could result in improved outcomes using this Intubating NIPPV Mask concept.  The product is designed to avoid severe oxygen desaturation during fiberoptic endotracheal intubation, thus resulting in reduced risk to the patient.  In addition, use of this Intubating NIPPV Mask could significantly reduce the time needed to complete the procedure. A patent on the concept is currently pending.  A prototype has been tested on airway mannequins by Intermountain Healthcare's airway management team.   Intermountain Healthcare is looking for a commercial partner to license and commercialize the Intubating NIPPV Mask.  For additional information, please contact Sheryl Hohle, 801-787-4900, sheryl.hohle@imail.org
