Impaired Driver Assessment

Impaired Driver Assessment

Overview of Technology

A MASEP assessment (purple form) that assesses the risk of DUI related offences in drivers

Background of Technology

The primary purpose of the MASEP assessment/Purple form is to measure program participants’ drinking behavior and drug use, problems related to alcohol and drug use, negative mood, driving behavior and risk for DUI recidivism.

The assessment is collected in session 1 and participants get individualized feedback in session 3 on the following assessment components provided they answered all questions: drinking behavior (weekly alcohol consumption and binge drinking), diagnostic criteria for alcohol use disorder, drug use, psychological distress and negative mood and their risk for getting another DUI.

Technology Description

The Impaired Driving Assessment tool is an assessment of individuals charged with and/or convicted of DUI/DWI that identifies the likelihood of substance use disorders and risk of recidivism. An individualized feedback report is generated based on the offenders responses that is designed to motivate behavioral change for DUI avoidance and to encourage treatment seeking. The report could be modified for use in court‑related assessments, intake‑referral settings, and probation departments to inform sentencing and treatment decisions.

Benefits

A more accurate assessment to determine the risk of DUI of drivers.

Applications

The data obtained from the assessment is used for research and program evaluation purposes. The assessment and feedback report has a commercial application in that it could be used by agencies within and outside of Mississippi for assessing DUI offenders.
