The Woods Hole Heated Seep Sampler is designed to circumvent the challenges below by pre-heating seawater within a sample collection funnel and continuing to heat a collected sample following accumulation, thereby preventing hydrate formation at depth. The sampler can also be configured with an unheated funnel for the collection of samples at depths shallower than the methane hydrate stability zone.
