Glutathione Detection (RS-06 and -07)

Robert Strongin and his lab focus on dyes and fluorescing compounds for use in a variety of applications.  Recently, they have developed new compounds for the colorometric detection of glutathione.  The compounds are useful in detecting thiols generally, but can also be used to selectively detect glutathione, cysteine, and homocysteine.  Current reported methods for thiol detection rely on non-specific redox chemistry, immunoassays, or derivitization with chromophores or fluorophores.  These compounds meet a substantial need for detecting and distinguishing between biologically important thiols, and could see extensive use as research tools and screening methods.
