GENERATOR FOR WAVE ENERGY HARVESTING

VAlue proposition

Ocean wave energy has many advantages like high power density, wide distribution, ease in harvesting and independence of time of day, weather or seasons. It is estimated that the global power by waves breaking around the coastlines worldwide is around 2–3 TW. However, ocean renewable energy technologies like wave energy converters (WEC) are still at relatively early stages of development. There is an opportunity for energy harvesting units deployed in the ocean. Harvested energy from wave actuation can be used to power environmental monitoring sensors as a self-powered monitoring network for ocean environments.  A self-powered ship guidance network can be locally powered.

Description of Technology

This technology is a hierarchically structured triboelectric nanogenerator to harvest energy from low-frequency water waves. The hybrid design combines low voltage, moderate current from EM generator and high voltage, low current from hierarchically structured triboelectric nanogenerator.  This highly adaptable design could be made to respond to a wide range of frequency and amplitude.
