The University of South Carolina is offering licensing opportunities for Facilitating At-Home Spirometry with Millimeter-Wave Devices
Background:
Due to the steady rise of COVID-19 cases and its long-haul syndromes, a broader set of people will now require continuous lung function monitoring. At-home spirometry tests allow to continuously monitor for recovery, detect changes, and gather long-term lung function evolution.
Invention Description:
We propose a low-barrier means to perform at-home spirometry tests using built in technology already available on 5G smart devices. The technology designs a software-only spirometry solution.
Potential Applications:
At-home spirometry tests. Provides objective measures of lung function and has wide applicability in diagnosing Asthma, COPD, Cystic Fibrosis, and other pulmonary diseases.
Advantages and Benefits:
This invention is the first system that enables at-home spirometry with cheap and ubiquitous mobile devices without requiring any extra hardware. We believe the technology can be a key solution to transform 5G smartphones into reliable at-home spirometers in the post-COVID era.
