Electrodes for Fuel Cells and Electrolyzers Containing Multiple Functional Polymers

Reference #: 01550

The University of South Carolina is offering licensing opportunities for Electrodes for Fuel Cells and Electrolyzers Containing Multiple Functional Polymers

Background:

In fuel cell and electrolyzer electrodes, it is important for ions to be transported throughout the electrode.  Typically, this is accomplished with a single ionic polymer, though this can limit the ion transport and the electrochemically active area.

Invention Description:

This invention allows for efficient ion transport throughout the electrode - increasing the electrochemically active area. This allows the cell to achieve higher operating currents and higher efficiency.

Potential Applications:

Improving the performance and lifetime of fuel cells and electrolyzers.

Advantages and Benefits:

Fuel cells and Electrolyzers will be able to operate at higher currents and efficiencies.
