Executive Summary
Over 37 million people suffer from migraines in the United States alone. In many cases stressful visual images can trigger migraines and epileptic seizures, and patients who suffer from migraines have a lower threshold for visual discomfort than patients who do not suffer from migraines. MSU researchers are working to combat the issues that migraines present.
Description of Technology
The invention consists of a software application that can determine at what spatial frequency patients find images visually discomforting, and then generate a preventative treatment plan based on that threshold to provide visual therapy for the patient. Exposure of low stress visual patterns up to and just above the threshold of visual discomfort will, over time, increase neuronal network connectivity and increase the patient’s ability to withstand the distress and migraine triggers that stressful images provide.
