Cyto-3D Print for Cytospin Centrifugation

“Cyto-3D-Print" is a new device that improves cell attachment to a glass surface. This procedure called cytospin is a cytology method that is specifically designed to concentrate cells for imaging. The Cyto-3D-Print is an adapter that increases the capability of a standard centrifuge by allowing various chambers and dishes to be cytospun. Centrifugation is the process of separating two immiscible liquids by the centrifugal forces applied in a centrifuge machine. In swinging bucket centrifuge machines, there are centrifuge buckets that can be removed from the rotor and is spun at a high rotation speed. Typically the rotors contain tube adapters. These adapters can also be removed from the bucket. Cytospinning increases the number of mitotic cells that remain on the chamber surface. It increases the number of cells that are attached by spinning the cells in the actual chamber. The “Cyto-3D-Print" is an adapter that fits inside an existing product, the centrifuge buckets. These adapters fit two different chambers typically used for assays and live cell imagining. This invention is a new device that improves the cytospinning procedure.

The Cyto-3D-Print is made by PLA plastic. A stool of PLA plastic is approximately $48. About three adapters can be printed from one stool; therefore, each adapter costs approximately $16.
