Summary

Researchers at USF have created a novel technique for faster memory efficient data acquisition of diffuse correlation spectroscopy. A standalone low-cost computer, along with timers and counters, has been implemented in this setup. This method combines photon-counting operations from many channels into a single stream,  thus making DCS blood flow monitors smaller, faster and cheaper. The invention facilitates the construction of large scale DCS arrays that can measure blood flow at data rates up to hundred frames per second. DCS also finds application in the detection of brain tumors and helps to quantify the blood flow in skeletal muscle.
