CIM23SAPP1A-17

CIM23SAPP1A-17 is a high-yielding, intermediate maturing maize hybrid with white grain, that is drought tolerant, NUE, and resistant to GLS, TLB, ear rots, and MSV. It is suitable for cultivation for food use in tropical, rainfed, dry/wet mid-altitude and transition ecologies in southern Africa and similar agroecologies. It is especially notable for good seed parent yield.   General Information   Target region Southern Africa   Adaptation/Agroecological zone 400-1800 masl   Type of product Three-way cross hybrid   Year first announced 2024         Why farmers say they like it*       Good crop stand, Cob size, Disease tolerance Grain Yield   Grain yield under optimum conditions 10.71 t/ha   *Common keywords from farmer feedback (CIMMYT Southern Africa 2024 Stage 5 Trials) Grain yield under managed drought 2.14 t/ha   Grain yield under low nitrogen 2.43 t/ha       Grain Yield on-farm (severe stress*) 1.52  t/ha   Grain Characteristics * The 2023/24 season in Southern Africa was characterized by the worst drought of the century, declared a national disaster in several countries.
