CIM22SAPP2-10

CIM22SAPP2-10 is a high-yielding, early-maturing maize hybrid with white grain, that is drought tolerant, NUE, and resistant to GLS, MSV, and TLB. It is suitable for cultivation for food use in tropical, rainfed, dry/wet mid-altitude and lowland ecologies in southern Africa and similar agroecologies. It has demonstrated good nicking and comparatively good yield under severe stress.   General Information   Target region Southern Africa   Target region <1800 masl   Type of product Three-way cross hybrid   Year first announced 2023         Why farmers say they like it*   High yield, Good germination/establishment, Big cobs       Grain Yield   *Common keywords from farmer feedback (2023 CIMMYT Southern Africa Maize Regional On-Farm Trials) Grain yield under optimum conditions 8.24 t/ha   Grain yield under managed drought stress 2.25 t/ha       Grain yield under low N stress 3.26 t/ha   Grain Characteristics Grain Yield on-farm (moderate stress) 6.48  t/ha   Grain color White Grain Yield on-farm (severe stress) 1.99  t/ha   Grain texture Semi-dent           Agronomic Characteristics   Biotic Stress Performance Maturity group Early   Turcicum leaf blight (TLB) (1-9)* 3.5 50% anthesis 66 DAP   Grey leaf spot (GLS) (1-9)* 4.2 870 GDD (°C)    Maize Streak Virus (MSV) (1-9)* 3.5 Anthesis-silking interval 1.06 days   Rust (1-9)* 3.0 Plant height 242.9 cm   Ear rots 9.4% Ear height 118.2 cm   *Scored on a 1-9 scale, where 1 = Highly resistant; 5 = Tolerant; 9 = Highly susceptible.
