CIM22SAPP1-12

CIM22SAPP1-12 is a high-yielding, late-maturing maize hybrid with white grain, that is drought tolerant, NUE, and resistant to GLS, TLB, ear rots, and MSV. It is suitable for cultivation for food use in tropical, rainfed, dry/wet mid-altitude and transition ecologies in southern Africa and similar agroecologies.  It is moderately tolerant to MLN.   General Information   Target region Southern Africa   Adaptation/Agroecological zone 400-1800 masl   Type of product Three-way cross hybrid   Year first announced 2023             Why farmers say they like it* Grain Yield   High yield, Vigor, Multiple cobs, Large Kernels Grain yield under optimum conditions 9.89 t/ha   Grain yield under managed drought 2.75 t/ha   *Common keywords from farmer feedback (2023 CIMMYT Southern Africa Maize Regional On-Farm Trials) Grain yield under low N stress 2.52 t/ha   Grain Yield on-farm (moderate stress) 5.92 t/ha       Grain Yield on-farm (severe stress) 2.13 t/ha   Grain Characteristics       Grain color White Agronomic Characteristics   Grain texture Semi-flint Maturity group Late       50% anthesis 73 DAP   Biotic Stress Performance 952 GDD (°C)   Turcicum leaf blight (TLB) (1-9)* 4.3 Anthesis-silking interval 1.39 Days   Grey leaf spot (GLS) (1-9)* 2.8 Plant height 233.2 cm   Maize Streak Virus (MSV) (1-9)* 3.7 Ear height 118.5 cm   Rust (1-9)* 3.4 Ears per plant 0.9   Ear rots 9.7% Ear position (ratio) 0.51   *Scored on a 1-9 scale, where 1 = Highly resistant; 5 = Tolerant; 9 = Highly susceptible.
