Executive Summary
AirSense provides homeowners with a tool to monitor and mitigate indoor air pollutants. This intelligent indoor air quality (IAQ) monitoring and analytics system works with air quality sensors to automatically detect pollution, identify its sources, determine its risk level and provide actionable suggestions to improve air quality.
Description of Technology
Existing IAQ monitors focus on measurement and data visualization but do not empower users to address indoor air pollution in real-time. A research team from MSU has filled this critical gap with AirSense. This new technology extracts data from sensors, analyzes it and uploads it to a cloud server. Once the pollution sources are identified the technology predicts the contamination level in the near future with a non-parametric regression scheme. Finally, through a smartphone application, AirSense provides immediate appropriate actions to minimize the user’s pollution exposure. It also can deliver IAQ profiling reports to help users better understand how their household activities impact air quality.
