Smart Vision is an AI-enhanced ocular ultrasound diagnostic system to screen patients for retinal detachment. Smart Vision uses a deep learning system based on ultrasound data to assess macular status and determine if a patient is experiencing retinal detachment. This allows a wider range of medical professionals to perform screening for retinal detachment, while current systems require specially trained ophthalmology providers to perform initial screenings. This could enable earlier detection of retinal detachment, which would significantly improve patient outcomes. Background: Retinal detachment is a condition in which the retina, a layer of tissue in the back of the eye, moves from its usual position. Retinal detachment significantly impairs patients’ vision and can lead to blindness if not properly addressed. Early detection and diagnosis of retinal detachment improves the rate of successful reattachment and quality of vision. Currently, the primary diagnostic tool used to detect retinal detachment is point-of-care optical ultrasound. This technique achieves excellent sensitivity and specificity in diagnosis, but it requires a high level of skill, training, and experience to properly interpret its results. Smart Vision aims to provide an AI-enhanced optical ultrasound device to enable a wider range of healthcare providers to screen for and diagnose retinal detachment. Applications:
