Method, System and Devices for Defining Respiratory Status

This invention is a system comprising FDA-approved MC10 BioStamp wearable sensors to gauge respiratory health in patients. The sensors are applied directly to the skin and can be used to produce gyroscopic data, including information around muscle activation and sleep. The data can be cross-referenced with observations from a motion capture system. Motion of the thorax was able to be measured, which could potentially lead to a viable method for measuring lung performance.

The system allows for storage, analysis, and telemetry of data. Data is entered into a cloud system allowing big data analysis with interlinked metadata. The system also allows for serial follow-up and iteration.

Background:
The rising incidence of chronic diseases and the growing geriatric population is increasing demand for point-of-care diagnostics and home care therapeutic devices, offering growth opportunities for players in the respiratory care devices market. Problems involve getting proper data to diagnose health in patients. Portable and at home sensors/methods for collecting this data are preferable which explains the use of MC10 BioStamps for this application. Standard methods involve hospital visits with instruments based off spirometry. While accurate, a longer period of measurements and comfort of one’s own home are preferable for better results. This technology is able to gather data non-invasively while still being portable. This data could then be stored, analyzed, and referred to for the patient and the generation of trends.
