3D Printing Using Peroxide Bearing Powdered Materials as Catalyst/Fillers

This invention involves the inkjet 3D printing of liquid precursors with epoxide or vinyl reactive groups into powder beds of extraterrestrial materials or simulants with catalytic peroxidizing or Lewis acidic metal sites which allows formation of thermoplastic or thermoset composites for agile manufacturing.

Applications

  • Allows for conversion of extraterrestrial regolith to valuable manufacturing material
  • Gives astronauts ability to produce wide variety of objects
  • Results in huge savings of fuel and money
  • Could provide better feedstock for 3D printing of houses
  • Allows for fast, cheap and customizable structures
