CIM24EALW-01

CIM24EALW-01 is a late-maturing, high-yielding, white maize hybrid, with resistance to GLS, TLB, rust, ear rots, root & stalk lodging, bred for use in tropical, rainfed, wet upper mid-altitude areas in eastern Africa and similar agroecologies. It is notable for drought tolerance, double-cobbing, and good yield under optimum conditions as well as on farm.   General Information   Target region Eastern Africa   Adaptation/Agroecological zone 1300-1900 masl   Type of product Three-way cross   Year first announced 2026         Why farmers say they like it*   Big cobs, good plant height, double cobs, good ear placement, good uniformity, strong stems       Grain Yield   *Common keywords from farmer feedback during CIMMYT's Eastern Africa 2025 regional on-farm trials  Grain yield (Opt) 9.15 t/ha   Grain yield on-farm >3 t/ha* 4.99 t/ha       Grain yield on-farm < 3 t/ha** 1.89 t/ha   Kernel Characteristics Grain yield under low N 3.65 t/ha   Kernel color White Grain yield under MD 2.74 t/ha   Kernel texture Dent Grain yield under Striga (AI) 5.50 t/ha       Grain yield under GLS (AI) 6.13 t/ha   Biotic Stress Performance Grain yield under TLB (AI) 7.44 t/ha   Grey leaf spot (GLS) (AI) (1-9)* 3.05 Grain yield under MLN (AI) 1.52 t/ha   Turcicum leaf blight (TLB) (AI) (1-9)* 4.00 *Average of ROFT sites where grain yield was greater than 3 t/ha
